MATTHEW GENTILE is an award-winning director and screenwriter based in Los Angeles.
His feature debut, AMERICAN MURDERER, is a true-crime thriller starring Tom Pelphrey, Ryan Phillippe, Idina Menzel, and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver. Lionsgate/Saban Films & Universal Pictures acquired the film for worldwide distribution.

After its premiere at the prestigious Taormina Film Fest in Sicily and racking up awards at film festivals such as San Diego Film Festival (where it won the Artistic Director Award), Newport Beach, Boston, and Fayetteville — it opened exclusively in theaters and received positive reviews from critics.
Upon its digital release, AMERICAN MURDERER has topped streaming charts in over 45 countries around the world (including the top 10 on Hulu in the USA, Italy, Spain, Austria, Argentina, and Brazil) and is now available for streaming on Hulu, Amazon, and Apple TV.

A graduate of the prestigious directing program at the AFI Conservatory, Matthew’s thesis film FRONTMAN won the Student Emmy for Best Directing, and his second thesis LAWMAN played over 100 festivals worldwide and won the Dolby + Vizio Vision Award at AFI Fest.
Currently, Matthew is adapting the acclaimed true crime book JUDGMENT RIDGE for producers Randy and Steven Toll’s company (RUMBLE THROUGH THE DARK, THE NOVICE) which he is also attached to direct, as well as the nonfiction gangster novel THE NAPPERS by Nick Rondi which Nicholas Pileggi (CASINO, GOODFELLAS) is collaborating on.
